Other So Called Remanufactured Cartridges:
A used OEM cartridge that has been recycled (usually through a third party). Parts are cleaned and / or replaced (generally less than 75% of parts) with the toner refilled. The cartridge is therefore ready to be used again. Some products – although remanufactured – do not meet the standards of OEM in terms of quality, reliability, performance and IP compliance.
Newbuild/New Compatible Cartridges/Generics:
A newly manufactured cartridge that is NOT produced by the original printer manufacturer, but by a third party, and sold under a third-party trademark.
Counterfeit Cartridges:
A newly produced cartridge that is NOT produced by the original printer manufacturer, but by a third party and sold under an OEM brand name.
“Drill and Fill” Cartridges:
Often referred to as a cartridge where the supplier drills a hole in the empty cartridge and refills the toner. This hole is then sealed, the cartridge cleaned and boxed for resale. Quality and reliability is very questionable.
Do Original Cartridges fail?
YES, THEY DO!
Despite the myth that OEM cartridges do not fail, they in fact do! OEM cartridges, although not publicised or spoken about, have a failure rate.
A toner cartridge has mechanical parts that constantly move. Any moving part regardless of what it is, is prone to failure. It does not matter if it is an OEM, remanufactured or compatible cartridge.

PRINTER DEFECT VS CARTRIDGE DEFECT
After a printer fails after years of not being maintained, it isn´t unusual to blame the cartridge. The majority of aftermarket units sold are suitable for older model printers – printers that have received little or no maintenance. Often, they are suffering the ill effects of worn out components, such as transfer belts, fuser units and paper pick up rollers.
